I'm Finally Rested Up

This weekend was a blast. We actually camped out on the beach and it was so fun. Hannah came home with a sunburn on her arms and chest. Rachael stepped on a hot coal from the bonfire. Debra just had an absolute blast and LOVED the water.

The RV park that Cody is staying in is only 30 miles from Galveston - I foresee a lot of days on the beach this summer (and Hannah says we'll be buying a lot of sunscreen)!

My nephew, Dade, found a lot of interesting stuff int the seaweed.

Dade and Debra playing in the sand.

Rachael waited all day for someone to bury her in the sand!

My niece, Michaela. Doesn't she look like a pin-up girl?

Hannah (that's Cody in the background) having a trick played on her.

The sunrise Sunday morning.

Childhood Memories

I grew up in Houston and one of my fondest memories are of summertime and traveling down to Galveston for a day at the beach. Today my girls are going to have some memories made for their own latter years.

Here's Debra testing out Rachael's new bicycle. I see a bicycle in Debra's near future! Maybe next month for her third!! birthday?

Of course, we had to make a trip to Wal-Mart for swimsuits and sunscreen.

Oh my! The ice cream truck came through the RV park. Remember how exciting that was?
I've had a lot of memories pop up while we planned this trip. I've been so very blessed.

No More Black...

sort of. Sunday morning I woke up for church and was just disgusted at the very thought of having to wear any black. I didn't want to wear a black skirt, a black shirt, nor a black cardigan. I want some color! After searching through my closet for something that still fits, I ended up wearing brown and white. Still, that wasn't what I meant by color. I've promised myself that there would be no more black clothes sewn until the fall months.

I wanted a quick fix of a few simple to sew t-shirts. Honestly, I wasn't wanting to spend much time fitting a pattern and for some reason it finally occurred to me to cut up a shirt that fits well but that I never wear. Crazy that I've never thought to do something like that! Anyway, I did cut up a shirt and even made a pattern from it. I'm crazy excited about my new t-shirt pattern. It really does need a FBA but I'm happy with it as-is.

Now... before y'all say but that shirt's got black! Yes, yes, it does. But I wanted to use this fabric for a plain t-shirt. And when I look at this fabric, I see the pink and the yellow and the green. So, I broke my rule. My blog, my sewing, my choice. BTW, this fabric is a recent purchase from Sawyer Brook Fabrics. It's a poly knit - so we'll see how it works out for this summer (where we be spending all of our time on Galveston Bay in Kemah, TX.). We should come home with really nice tans.

I also used my new overstitch machine for the first time on the hems - I wish that I had made the sleeve hem a bit wider but it's fine for a first time!

How I've set up my machines. Y'all ignore that fabric and other stuff behind them. Okay?

She Turned 15 Today

No longer the baby I brought home so many years ago.

On vacation in December.

But she'll always be my girl.

Haha! She doesn't know that I have this photo!
