I finished my shirt last Thursday evening. It turned out okay - not a perfect shirt but I did learn from sewing it.
The fabric is a funky grey/brown, very similar to khaki but without the green if that makes any sense. I bought this piece several years ago from Sawyer Brooks Fabrics along with several other matching pieces of fabric. I'm going to try to get them sewn up this fall as they are all Autumn fabrics.
The pattern is Pamela's Patterns #104 The Perfect T-Shirt. With a recent weight-loss of 25 pounds, I originally was thinking that I should cut a large. Nope, according to the chart I cut a size medium. YES! Here's the kicker, after sewing the top and trying it on - it was still TOO LARGE! I ended up taking it in close to 4" total around the body of the shirt.
There was a bit of a problem with a lack of enough fabric after washing the fabric. I realized that it was wool when I opened up the lid to the washer. Wool certainly has a distinctive smell, doesn't it? As a result of this lovely experience, I had to get creative and piece the sleeves. I choose to add a long ruffle to the bottom and I have to say that I really like it. My only problem with the sleeve is that it was cut following the narrow sleeve width - a mistake on my part and why I wish that there was Spanx for arms. They aren't tight but do cling a bit, showing off my fabulous batwings.
I didn't bind the neckline, instead I just serged, turned under and then sewed about 1/4" from the edge. I'm not really sold on the shirt-tail hem. It seems a bit too casual to me and I'm trying to upgrade my wardrobe to dressy/casual.
Frankly, this has a great fit (after taking in the sides). I'll make it again with the wider sleeve and consider a straight hem-line at the bottom.
Next up is Simplicity 2058 in a matching twill.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Arms Spanx sounds like what I need too - I've got a sweater on over my dress just to cover my arms.
Congrats on not being a large or a medium! I have almost lost as much as you and have gone from a XXL down to a L. Looking forward to being a medium.
@ JuliN - thank you. It's a struggle to loose what I put on so effortlessly!
@ElleC - I wish that I could say that I wasn't a large or medium but I think it's more that this pattern runs large and that I'm used to a more body conscious shirt. I've gone from a 20 RTW bottom to a 16 RTW. That's great progress in my opinion!
Chick! When did you start blogging again?! Totally would've been here if I'd known. Congrats on the weight loss! I actually came to see if you ever posted any knitting projects...off to browse!
Oh, and I love the big ruffles!
@Sister - thank you. I just started back up last week.
Very nice top. I'm glad you have started blogging again. I'm happy for you on your weight-loss.
