First off - a BIG thank you to each of you ladies that took time to comment and encourage me to finish the muslin.
So... This is Not a good picture. at. all.
Oh well, you take what you get with me and my kids' photography. Maybe Debbie should do a photo tutorial on taking one's picture in a mirror? I can never get those to turn out right. They're a hot mess.
Anyway, the sleeveless top is finished. In addition to the pattern changes I noted yesterday, I only put in a 1" hem (instead of 1.5") and I didn't cut out two yokes. Instead, I cut 2" wide strips on the crossgrain of my fabric for neck- and armbands.

Okay, so one thing that Beangirl warned me about was over-fitting. Really, I'm trying to keep in mind that it doesn't have to be perfect - just better than RTW. One thing that I did notice is that I have these wrinkles at my arms. I'm thinking that I may need to start with one size smaller at the upper chest and do a bigger FBA? Tell me what y'all think!
I had enough fabric left over to make a tank top - it's almost finished and then I'm done with this cream colored knit. You might see it again but it'll be a small project - fabric flowers or something because I have very little left of the 4 yards I bought years ago!

My approach to fitting is imaging what I'd have to do to the fabric to get the wrinkles to lie flat, either pulling up on something (it's too big) or pulling down on something (it's too small).
in which case I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking that the side wrinkles are pointing to needing a little more length or width in the upper chest. So I'm not sure going a size smaller there will help, but rather a size up?
The width/lenght you need could just be getting used up in not enough FBA, but really you don't have any stretching or pulling directly across the bust (which is where I'd think it would be in that case).
that was so not helpful.
