Ottobre 02/2009 #1

This is the "Rose" camisole top from Ottobre 02/2009.

I started with a 42 at the chest (testing my theory of needing one size smaller at the upper chest) grading all the way out to 52 for my hips. OUCH! Using my newly acquired pattern-altering skillz, I cut the pattern into pieces performing a FBA.

I raised the neckline 2.5" and cut off 3" at the hem. BTW, I started out with a size 42 hem length. I think I'm going to add 1.5" back to the hem though - I'd like a bit more belly coverage.

I felt like I was at the DMV getting a new license.

I can really see why stylist's say that you shouldn't wear a crew neck shirt if you have a large bust. Other than that? It's a tank top. Although, my darts do look really pretty. I'm telling y'all, I could get used to not having a lump of fabric at my armpit like I experience with RTW.

I'm going to get embarrassingly personal here. My measurements are 38 inch upper bust, 44 inch bust, 32 under bust, 35-38 waist (varies), 43-45 hips (varies with waist). For tops and dresses I make the size equivalent to the upper bust and then add a 2 1/2 inch FBA. Yes, it is a big difference, such a big difference that I really don't bother to make the waist and hip adjustment, since the extra inches are all in front there, too. Making the smaller size really does seem the way to go if you are big busted and works well for me.

The other issue I have that you also might have is that I have a short torso and need a reduction of an inch somewhere between the shoulders and bust point, especially after the above mentioned adjustment. I have fairly thin arms (for a heavier gal) and haven't had issues with the smaller armholes, but this often means a change in the shape of the sleeves, too.

I end up making other adjustments, too, like squaring off the shoulders. I'm not sure if any of this pertains to you or is helpful, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Everybody = thanks for the words of encouragement. I truly appreciate them.

Kimberly = our measurements are fairly close (except the hips - mine are much larger). Thank you for the advice - I'll keep your words in mind when I'm altering my next pattern! ;-)
