Just Another Skirt

This is my version of Burda WOF 8-2007-118. I absolutely love how this skirt turned out! It is made of a gorgeous red pique that I bought from Farmhouse Fabrics.

2 yds. 60" red pique @ $14/yd = $28.00
1 invisible zipper = $2.00
1 pkg. of red bias tape = $2.00

Total for red skirt = $34.00

This is the very first Burda WOF magazine I have ever owned. I am so glad that I finally subscribed. I will probably go ahead and get a subscription to Burda Plus so that I don't need to grade the patterns up along with all of the other necessary alterations needed!

Without further ado, here are the alterations for my version of this skirt.

1. I had to grade the pattern up form a size 42 to a a size 50 - what an experience! It turned out to be easier than I thought it would be.

2. I lengthened the skirt by 10", this completely covers my calves.

3. I'm not a big fan of facings ( how many skirts do you buy that have an actual facing). I simply eliminated the facings and used bias tape around the waistline of the skirt.

4. The pleats are what caught my eye. To make ironing easier, I edgesitched the pleats on the inside of the skirt. This causes the skirt to still be "pleated" after it comes out of the wash.

One thing that I noticed about this red pique is that I will definitely need to carry around a lint roller. It picks up every little piece of lint and then really shows it off!

I've ordered these shoes from Zappos, and am praying that they will match/look great with this skirt.

UP NEXT: A blouse - I'm trying to recreate this outfit from INSTYLE April 2007. I fell in love with this very fun shirt and am just now getting around to making it. Sorry for the camera glare.

My Youngest Diva!

New Look 6582

This is my youngest daughter, Rachael. She picked out the pattern, the fabric, and the trim for this outfit. I added the applique stars on the jacket to tie it in with the stars on the skirt material.

Everything came from Hancock's. I do believe Rachael has pretty good instincts.

My Sewing Space

So, you might wonder how I get any sewing done while living in a 5th wheel travel trailer. Here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea of my sewing "room." This particular area is also the kitchen table, my husbands office (notice the printer under my sewing box), and while school is in session, it is also my daughters' school desk.

In travel trailers, everything has more than one purpose!
